Being who you are doesn't require anyone to tell you how. The thoughts that happen in your head are exactly you, not someone else's and they happen without you having to flip a switch or press a button. At any given moment of the day you instantly are you at every moment. When you think deeply about a challenge at work or the emotional rush of seeing a child step into the street, each of these are uniquely framed around being you.
Getting to this point is something that took time and practice. School, life experiences, and innumerable other things have been presented to you and you have built who you are from all these pieces. In some ways the adage "You are what you eat" also applies to being you, only it might go "You are what you allow yourself to be."
There are limitations to who you are as well. Physically, neurologically, socially, legally, even spiritually, there are boundaries to who and what we are. At this given moment I am still Ahndeleck and cannot instantly decide to be who you are. All of us though, have the capability to change, and in small ways we change every day. As we experience something new in life, or even if we experience the same things over and over, we change in small subtle ways.
Change is something that is inevitable, but it is something that we can affect and guide. The best way to guide how we change through life is through the power of virtues and applying them to situations in our lives. Virtues are qualities about ourselves that we find wholesome and good. These are things that we want to encourage and encourage in those around us.
This leads us to several questions:
* Where are these changes taking us?
* Who is in charge of how we change?
* What are those changes?
Being who you are doesn’t require anyone to tell you how. Becoming who you want to be on purpose, requires more than just being. This requires some sort of understanding of where you are presently and where you could be in the future. Virtues are the stars that you navigate by on this journey to being the you of the future.
Virtues are usually a concept that you hold in high esteem and have a meaning that you strive to meet. These do not need to be something that is concrete and defined absolutely. In many cases, leaving a virtue loosely defined actually helps you apply it with both your emotional thinking as well as logical thinking. This flexibility becomes part of the strength of the virtue itself, and ultimately your own strength.
Life is filled with unknowns and challenges. Part of what defines us is how we approach those problems. This might seem obvious, but the harder part is actually being in one of these unknown moments or a time full of challenges.

> **A virtue is a quality you hold in high regard — an idea you strive to embody. It doesn’t need to be rigidly or absolutely defined. > **Virtues are qualities you aspire to live by — not fixed commandments, but guiding ideas held in high regard.
